John's interest in woodworking grew from a background in residential construction, natural building, and timber framing. Passionate about the craft and the raw material itself, he yearned to deepen his skills and understanding of working with wood.
In 2014 he graduated from the Resident Mastery Program at the Northwest Woodworking Studio in Portland, Oregon. Under the direction of Gary Rogowski, he developed skills in traditional furniture making techniques, while stretching his mind with contemporary design challenges.
With deep appreciation for wood and the history of woodworking, John creates pieces that are fresh incarnations of classic forms. Through careful selection of material and thoughtful design, each piece holds the story of the trees they came from.
John is based in Ashland, Oregon, where he works out of a cooperative shop shared with other local craftsmen.
